Whether on a walk, on vacation, or at home – minor accidents, sudden pain, or stomach upsets can happen quickly. A well-stocked first aid kit for your dog provides peace of mind and allows you to act quickly and intuitively before a veterinarian is needed or available.
In this article, I'll show you the most important components – from classic to holistic, including proven homeopathic remedies and tips from naturopathy.
Wound care
- Disinfectants (e.g. Octenisept or Colloidal Silver)
- Sterile compresses
- Bandage material (gauze, gauze, elastic bandage)
- Plasters (for paws), possibly dog shoes
- Tweezers (e.g. for thorns, splinters)
First aid
- Tick tweezers / card
- Scissors
- Disposable gloves
- Thermometer (normal value for dogs: approx. 38–39 °C)
- Muzzle or bite guard (for safety in case of pain)
Gastrointestinal
- Charcoal tablets (for diarrhea, poisoning)
- Healing clay or Moro's carrot soup
eyes, ears, nose
- Eyewash (NaCl 0.9%)
- Ear cleaner (mild & dog-friendly)
- Aloe vera gel (gentle cooling for irritations)
Tips for storage & use
- Keep your first aid kit in a sturdy box – well padded for travel.
- Keep package inserts handy (or a list of dosages by weight).
- Do not touch globules with metal or hands – ideally on a spoon or directly into the mouth.
- Add an emergency contact note to your box: veterinarian, animal clinic, poison control center.
🌿 With a lovingly and thoughtfully compiled first aid kit, you'll be well-equipped for many everyday situations—whether you're at home or out and about with your dog. And as always, your gut feeling counts—you know your dog best. You can treat many minor ailments yourself, but if symptoms are serious or persistent, you should, of course, seek veterinary advice.
