Many dog owners start feeding their dog a raw diet full of motivation – and then face the big question: How much food does my dog actually need?
Too much can be detrimental, too little leads to deficiencies. The correct amount of food is crucial for health, energy, and well-being.
As a certified canine nutritionist, I know that no two dogs are the same. Age, weight, activity level, and metabolism all play a huge role – that's why individual calculations are so important.
A first overview:
2–3% of body weight per day for adult dogs of normal weight. Active dogs with lots of exercise: 3–4%. Very active dogs/working dogs: 4–6%.
But that's just the beginning – the optimal amount depends on many factors:
* Activity & Movement Level
* Metabolism & muscle mass
* Age & Health Condition
* Ambient temperature
* Feed composition
In my individual feeding plan consultation, I calculate the exact BARF amount based on your dog – including nutritional balance and energy requirements.

An example of the classic BARF distribution (for orientation):
* 80% animal content (meat, offal, bones)
* 20% plant-based content (vegetables, fruit, additives)
How to tell if the BARF amount is right
A healthy dog will quickly show you if you are feeding it correctly: stable figure, visible waist, shiny coat, normal digestion and balanced behavior.
You can also trust your instincts when it comes to the amount of food. Your intuition and your dog's body language will often tell you whether he is full, content, or unbalanced. Feeding in harmony means connecting numbers and feelings – this creates balance between body and energy.
