The term consists of two components:

Biological

This involves questions such as:
- What is the dog by nature? (A carnivore, meaning a meat eater with plant-based supplementary food elements)
- What can he digest and utilize well?
- What nutrients does it need – and in what form?
- Which food structure corresponds to his natural food intake?

✨Example: Raw meat, bones, offal, minimally processed ingredients – all of this corresponds to a dog’s natural diet and is therefore biologically appropriate.

Species-appropriate
→ refers to the nature and lifestyle of the dog as an animal species – but also as an individual living being with needs, feelings and preferences.

It is not only about the “what”, but also about the “how”:
- How is feeding done? (Rituals, calm, mindful atmosphere)
- How does the dog live? (Exercise, social contact, rest periods)
- Is his natural way of life respected?

✨Species-appropriate means: Not every dog ​​needs exactly the same thing – but every dog ​​should be seen as an individual and cared for accordingly.

Organic + species-appropriate = holistic
So, when we talk about "biologically appropriate," we mean a diet that is based on the dog's natural lifestyle, anatomy, and psyche. It's not about dogma or a rigid system—but rather a conscious understanding of natural needs.

This can mean:
- raw, unprocessed food (BARF)
- Orientation towards prey
- Supplementation with herbs, wild plants or natural oils
- Time, calm and gratitude when feeding
- Consideration of movement, behavior, metabolic type
